The Water Was Deep

Often we get so caught up in everyday life that we don't see that we are in reality drowning. Stress, finances, friendships, ambition... We all need a saviour, but often we just don't see it. We are sold lies by those telling us what we need and pushing their rules to abide by before they simply walk (swim) away leaving us still feeling hollow, empty and no closer to peace.

However, often the answer is right before us - an answer we rejected out of hand, only to realise it was right there all along.

Lyrics

I tried to stand against the tide
But the water was deep and the river was wide
So I found myself being swept out to the sea
I felt so alive - I thought I was free

It was THE place to be - my friends were all there

Some were in trouble, but most didn’t care

There was eating and drinking and laughter all round

But I could see a storm coming and I knew we would drown

Then a man swam up to me - I think from the beach
He gave me a smile as he started to preach
He told me there was a way to be saved
Gave me a leaflet and he then swam right away

Another man appeared in a boat through the waves
Dishevelled and lonely, with a sad kind of face

He reached out his hand and I felt so ashamed
It was like I was guilty, but he had been blamed

It was then that I saw the love in his eyes

His compassion of knowing we were drowning in lies

I suddenly realised he’d been there all the time
His hand reaching out, just waiting for mine

His hand reaching out, just waiting for mine
His hand reaching out, just waiting for mine
